The Michigan Department of Transportation Office of Rail publishes a map showing the current rail lines in the State and their owners. Below is a zoomed in portion of that map for Washtenaw County.
There are three Class I lines running through the county owned by Norfolk South and CSX and two Class III lines that meet up in Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor Railroad and the Great Lakes Central.
Amtrak’s Wolverine service from Pontiac to Chicago runs on the East-West NS line through the county (as anyone who has watched them go by sitting at Sidetrack would know).
I want to each explore each line in more detail in future posts but will leave it at this right now. The railroads that are currently in the county today.
